The Rules
INTRODUCTION
MusicArte
International announces the FIFTH EDITION of the "MARIO
NASCIMBENE" AWARD (hereof referred to as MARIO
NASCIMBENE AWARD or Competition), dedicated to the figure
"Maestro" Mario Nascimbene (Milan 1913 - Rome
2002), composer of four-hundred soundtracks for the Italian
and international cinema.

The MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD takes place on Saturday 10 June
2006 at the "Camillo De Nardis" theatre of Orsogna
(Chieti).
MARIO
NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006
The MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006 includes a
competition between unpublished music comments, specially
composed by artists, for a cinematographic sequence selected
by the Organization.
There are two Juries: a Selection Jury
and a Prize-giving Jury.
The Selection Jury
will examine and judge all music comments in the
competition and draw up a classification.
At the end of selections, the first five music comments in
the classification will be admitted to the final competition
on Saturday 10 June 2006.
The Prize-giving Jury will examine and judge the five
comments admitted by the Selection
Jury, and select the winner of MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006.
The
six days of the event will be organized as follows:
From
Monday 5 to Friday 9 June
Showing and scoring of music comments in the competition.
Saturday 10 June
Showing of the five finalist music comments and winner
selection.
At 9.30 p.m. the Award Ceremony will take place.
ARTICLE
1 – REQUIREMENTS
The MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD is open to composers of all
nationalities.

2 – JURIES
The Art Director appoints both the Selection Jury and
Prize-giving Jury.
a)
The
Selection
Jury is a corporate body, whose task is to view
and judge all music comments in the competition.
The Selection Jury will assign a score from 1 to 10 to every
music composition.
At the end of selections, the Committee will draw up a list,
based on the sum of scores of every member.
The first five music comments that obtain the highest scores
will be admitted to the final.
Selections will take place at the Theatre “Camillo De
Nardis” in Orsogna on 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 June 2006.
Based on the number of participants, the Organization will
decide on the Calendar at the end of participant
registration.

The
Prize-giving
Jury is the corporate body, whose task is to
select the winner of MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006.
The Jury will meet on Saturday 10 June 2006 afternoon; it
will view and judge the five finalist music comments, and
draw up the list, based on the sum of scores of every member.
The Jury will announce the winner during the evening event.
The
Prize-giving Jury will assign a score from 1 to 10 to
every music composition.

c)
In their sovereignty and authority the Selecting
Jury and Awarding Jury have the faculty to decide on the
selection criteria of the competing compositions and to take
indisputable decisions.
d)
The members of the jury who have or have had in the
last two years public or private didactic relations with one
or more competitors will abstain from participating to the
discussion and expressing any evaluation on the competitors'
exams. The abstention will be notified explicitly on the
minutes. At the array of the jury each member will release a
declaration on his/her personal situation regarding the
competitors.
ARTICLE 3 – THE INSPECTION COMMITTEE
A special Committee
appointed by the Organization, and consisting of three
members, will play a review and inspection role, with the
following tasks, in particular:
a)
Check
for opening of envelopes received for participating
in MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006; review their content;
and exclude any candidates who have not sent the requested
material;
b)
Assist
to listening and judging operations of the two Juries, and
draw up the reports at the end of the work of the two
Juries;
c)
Draw
up the reports at the end of the work of the two Juries.
ARTICLE
4 – THE COMPETITION
a)
The participants are asked to prepare a piece of music for
some scenes taken from the film ALEXANDER THE GREAT by
Robert Rossen.
b) The strip will last about 5 minutes.
c) Candidates are allowed to compose the scenes absolutely
freely.
d) The
file containing the strip, in MPEG or AVI format, shall be
sent on a digital support through registered letter with
advice of receipt not later than 5th May 2006.
e) The compositions should be unpublished and should never
have been performed at any concert or public event.
f) The
music comment shall be edited with images and sent on
analogue (VHS) or digital (in MPEG, AVI, DivX or Windows
Media formats) support.
ARTICLE
5 – APPLICATION
In order to apply for the MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD the
application form and receipt for payment have to be sent via
fax at the number 0871/867734. If you wish you can also send
the application form and photocopy of the receipt for
payment in a sealed envelope to "MusicArte"
International - Via Vignaiuoli, 87 - 66036 Orsogna (Chieti).
The application fee for the competition is 65
euros including the cost and sending of the supporting
strip, taken from the film ALEXANDER THE GREAT as a
registered letter (A/R).

The
application deadline is 3
th
May 2006.
After having received the application form and the receipt
for payment, the Award Secretary will mail to each
participant his/her application code.
The code can be used on the MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD internet
site (www.nascimbeneaward.net/award_secretary_ed2006.htm) to
ask for any further information.
ARTICLE
6 – MATERIALS TO BE SENT TO THE SECRETARY OF THE
COMPETITION
The material shall be received by the Organization not later
than 3th June 2006 through registered
letter with advice of receipt, under penalty of exclusion,
as confirmed by the date of the advice of receipt.
Said
letter shall contain the following material, under penalty
of exclusion:
a)
VHS
tape or CD-Rom or DVD containing the music comment edited
with images of the sequence sent;
b)
our
copies of the scores;
c)
a
short updated biographical note (maximum one page);
d)
photocopy
of the artist’s valid identity card or passport.
The
artist can include a short information note on the music
project in the letter.
ARTICLE
7 – ADMISSION TO THE FINAL
At
the end of Selection Jury works, the five admitted
candidates will be called on the phone by the Art Director
not later than 9.00 p.m. of 9 June 2006.
In
the case the finalist candidates cannot be reached by
telephone due to force majeure reasons, they will receive an
SMS message to their mobile phone number indicated on their
Registration Form at item MOBILE.
At
the end of the above-mentioned term (9.00 p.m. of 9 June
2006), admissions will be considered as finally concluded.
The
names of the five candidates admitted to the final will be
indicated on the Competition web site at www.nascimbeneaward.net,
not later than 10.30 p.m. of 9 June 2006.
The
five finalists shall attend the Prize-giving Ceremony.
ARTICLE
8 – THE PRIZES
The best composition will receive the MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD
during the final event evening on Saturday 10 June 2006 at
9.30 p.m. at “Camillo De Nardis” Theatre in Orsogna.
During the evening, the best three works selected by the
Prize-giving Jury from the five admitted works will be shown
in public.
The
winner will be recommended to the Film Production
Corporation and will receive a scholarship of 2,500 €.
The
second and third winner will be given a prize and a
participant diploma.
MusicArte
International reserves the right to invite the winner to
cooperate to its activities.
In the case work cooperation is established within 2006, the
winner can no longer participate in the competition.
ARTICLE
9 – RECORDING RIGHTS
For
any photograph shooting, radio, television or telematic
broadcasting or discography recording of MARIO NASCIMBENE
AWARD 2006, participants cannot claim anything from the
Organization or the broadcasting Body.
ARTICLE
10 – GENERAL AND FINAL REGULATIONS
a)
Only individual over-eighteen year old artists are
admitted to the competition.
b)
The results of the competition will be visible not
later than 12 June 2006 in the official web site.
c)
The sent materials will not be returned.
d)
In the case the artist in competition decides to
withdraw from the competition or is excluded according to
the provisions of the Art. 5 of the Competition Rules, the
registration fee will not be returned.
e)
The Organization is entitled to apply integrations
and changes to these Rules, to substitute the members of the
jury in case of serious hindrance or to move the award's
date. In the case of unexpected events, the Organization is
also entitled to introduce integrations and changes to the
Rules, in order to protect the artistic level of MARIO
NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006.
f)
Each participant has to make sure that the materials
arrive at the Award Secretary. The organisers decline any
responsibility on possible damage or loss.
In case the Competition does not take place, the application
fee will be returned.
The Direction keeps the right not to open the competition
within the expected date if the applications are considered
not sufficient, if compared to the established minimum, or
for technical reasons.
g)
In public events the winner promises to indicate the
subtitle of his/her composition as follows: Award-winning
composition of MARIO NASCIMBENE AWARD 2006.
h)
Full
agreement is made on the present competition by signing the
application form.
The
introduction hereto is an integral part of the Rules.
i)
The Italian text of the Rules is considered as the
official version.
For
anything not specifically indicated in the Competition Rules,
reference is made to Italian laws regulating this specific
matter.The
Court of Chieti has the jurisdiction on any controversy.
